Since graduating Monash University 1986 spent initial hospital years at Geelong Hospital and general practice training throughout rural Victoria.
Diploma of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology 1993.
Joined the Phillip Island Medical Group in 1993 and remained as a partner until 2001.

Dr Paul FitzGerald
Dr Paul FitzGerald graduated from The University of Melbourne in 1989. Following this he worked as a hospital doctor in a wide range of medical specialties including cardiology, gastroenterology, dermatology and general medicine. Subsequent to this he gained experience working in intensive care followed by a year working at The Royal Women’s Hospital where he achieved The Diploma of Obstetrics.
In 1993-4 he worked as a GP in rural Victoria and Frankston.
A year working as a hospital anaesthetist in the UK followed before returning to Australia where he resumed working as a general practitioner at Humphries Road Medical Centre. In 1997 he became a Fellow of The Royal Australian College of General Practice.
Dr Fitzgerald is interested in all aspects of general practice including minor surgical procedures, complex medical problems, travel medicine and antenatal shared care.
He regularly acts as an examiner and standard setter for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and is actively involved in The College’s assessment process.
Away from medicine Dr FitzGerald enjoys running, stand up paddle boarding, the occasional game of golf and kicking the footy with his son.
Dr Karinna Fyfe
Dr Karinna Fyfe graduated from Monash University in 2014. She spent time working as a hospital medical officer in paediatrics and obstetrics before commencing GP training in Tasmania in 2018. She became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2020. Karinna enjoys all aspects of general practice, however, has particular interests in women’s and children’s health and weight management.
Karinna will be working 3.5 days a week and some weekends.
Away from work, Karinna is a keen long-distance runner and you’ll often find her out exploring the local trails or enjoying Parkrun on a Saturday morning. She also enjoys pottering in the garden and spending time with family.
Dr Jonathan Lowther
Dr Lowther has over 30 years’ experience in General Practice with interests in musculoskeletal medicine, occupational health, family medicine and military medicine.
Dr Lowther works 3 days a week and some weekends.
Otherwise he is acting as a cellar rat for his winemaking spouse, tasting the products very important to longevity.
Dr Claire Harrison
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR CLAIRE HARRISON: MB BCH BAO BMedSci MRCSI MRCGP (Merit) FRACGP
Claire is an Irish medical graduate with training in both Surgery and General Practice. With her husband Ian, she moved to Australia in 2008, initially working in Queensland and since 2014 in Victoria. Over this time, Claire has worked both as a General Practitioner and also as an academic in the medical programs of both Griffith and Monash Universities. Her current role at Monash University is as the lead of the General Practice teaching program. Claire is interested in all aspects of General Practice and enjoys seeing patients of all ages. When not working, her hobbies include horse-riding and running.
Dr Sal Mililli
Dr Sal graduated his medical degree at Melbourne University in 1983. After further GP training, he completed his Diploma of Obstetrics and did further work in paediatrics, emergency medicine, intensive care medicine and anaesthetics.
Dr Sal was an establishing partner in the practice when Humphries Road Medical Centre opened its doors in 1989.
He has over 25 years experience in family practice and been involved with the care of four generations of many of the families that attend the clinic.
He enjoys all aspects of family medicine with special interests in antenatal care, paediatrics, preventative health, hypertension and heart disease, and diabetes .
If he’s not at work he is probably either in the veggie garden, out bushwalking and taking photos or spending time with his family
Dr Ian Kerr
Ian trained in Scotland, completing his medical degree in Aberdeen before moving to Edinburgh. He undertook post graduate training in multiple disciplines including Anaesthetics,Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Psychiatry and General Practice, as he progressed to completion of his training and qualification in Family Medicine/General Practice. He also obtained qualifications in both Anaesthetics and Occupational Health. As well as working as a General Practitioner and Occupational Health Physician, he was medical officer to a local rugby club and the Edinburgh Rugby under 19’s. He also served on multiple local and national medical committees.
Ian emigrated to Queensland in 2008 working in General Practice and as a Senior Lecturer in Medical Education in the School of Medicine at Griffith University. Together with his wife, Claire, he moved from Queensland to Melbourne in 2014, to live closer to his daughter, who works as Paediatric registrar at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
He enjoys all aspects of General Practice, which allows him to develop long-term relationships, providing continuity of care in both children and adults. He is particularly interested in the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma and heart disease.
When not working, Ian can usually be found on a golf course, watching rugby union or looking after his granddaughter.

Liz Russell – Psychologist

Registered Psychologist & Director at ER Psychology
Fully registered as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Association (AHPRA) since 2008, Liz has completed a Master’s degree in Health Psychology at Monash University, and also a Supervised Practice Plan in Darwin and Melbourne.
Liz has 19 years of counselling experience, and has worked with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and a broad range of ages in individual and group settings. In addition to seeing private patients at the Humphries Road Medical Centre and at the Red Hill Medical Centre, Liz provides on-site psychological therapeutic care to children ranging in age from 5 – 12 years, at several Peninsula based primary schools.
Liz has worked with a range of presenting problems including health related concerns, chronic pain, depression and anxiety disorders, stress management, life stage and adjustment difficulties, grief and loss, and behavioural disorders.
Liz’s approach to presenting problems is to examine the biological, psychological, and social components that underpin the issues presented by clients. She takes an integrative approach to counselling, and uses evidence based therapies including client-centred, cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, and strength based therapies.
Liz has a strong interest in positive psychology, and uses a collaborative, practical approach to assist clients to achieve personally important goals and improve their quality of life.
Justine Thomas – Dietitian
Justine is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and has been working in private practice for the past 20 years. Justine has previously worked in the hospital setting, has done corporate consulting and has spent 7 seasons as the dietitian for St Kilda Football Club.
Justine has special interests in gastrointestinal conditions – including coeliac disease, IBS, fructose malabsorption and inflammatory bowel disease, food allergy/intolerances in babies and children and weight control. Justine also sees patients with a range of other dietary related conditions including high cholesterol, diabetes, vegetarian/vegan diets, sports nutrition, poor weight gain in babies and children and has a focus on disease prevention through good health and nutrition.
